EMDR is an in-depth holistic therapy that allows for profound personal transformation and healing.

EMDR via teletherapy is possible and just as effective as in person EMDR!

It stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It was originally researched as a treatment for PTSD, but the way that I utilize EMDR in my practice is more versatile and applicable to almost anyone.

The process includes using bilateral stimulation (BLS) - gentle stimulation on both sides of your body - to reprocess experiences in your life that have caused negative subconscious beliefs that color the way you see yourself, others, and the world.

EMDR is highly effective with decades of research to support it. Many people experience relief from their symptoms very quickly, sometimes even after only one session.

The word "trauma" has very strong connotations. Most people think of extreme situations when they hear the word, like severe domestic violence or having been a victim in a terrorist attack. However, trauma can be anything your brain perceives as negative and leaves a lasting effect. More subtle experiences like ongoing emotional abuse in a relationship or childhood bullying can result in the same trauma responses. Your body and brain may respond to current stimuli as though you’re stuck in the past reliving the same events and patterns. EMDR helps to make sense of these disturbing experiences and store them in a different part of your brain so you can move forward.

Don’t worry if you don’t know off the top of your head which events or relationship dynamics in your life have been problematic. This is part of the therapeutic process - understanding your history and making connections.

I have seen incredible results in my clients using EMDR. I encourage most to consider it because it is so versatile, effective, and amazingly transformational. But of course this is a decision that we would come to together - whether or not EMDR is the right path for your healing journey. You can read more about the neurobiology of it and what the process looks like by clicking the links below. If it turns out that it’s not something you’re interested in pursuing, traditional talk therapy is still a great option!

In addition to healing trauma, EMDR can be effective for:

Anxiety

Panic Attacks

Depression

ADHD

Autism

Phobias
